Persistent pain is best managed with an inter-professional approach, combining medical, physical and psychological therapies. This is often referred to as a biopsychosocial approach, because it addresses all the factors that contribute to the experience of pain.
Our program, based in Darwin, NT, has been designed by an inter-professional team of experienced professionals to support adults of all ages and life stages to achieve their goals and return to maximum function. The program includes:
- Comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment
- 6-12 week targeted, multidisciplinary Pain Program (1-2 half-days per week)
- “Maintenance” program (if required)
- Self-management approach (exercise, pacing, flare-up management, mood, stress and sleep strategies)
- Planning for return to work and other important life activities
- Recommendations for next steps
